It’s too soon to determine how popular this opinion is but I genuinely enjoyed this year’s Met Gala looks. My audience on Instagram are commenting on how underwhelmed they were and how it didn’t really deliver. But I really enjoyed the references to iconic designs and their makers. I enjoyed the (not so) subtle nod to Galliano and his legacy from three major fashion houses. I also can’t stop thinking about Kim K and Elle Fanning. Best they have ever looked.

I was kind of disappointed when Lady Gaga didn’t show up in an iconic McQueen look or when Rihanna didn’t show us all what Garden of Time meant to her. But I can imagine it, no? Lady Gaga in a deconstructed decaying McQueen. A beautiful reinterpretation, not vintage. Meanwhile Rihanna shows up in a voluminous silhouette, her skin shining from her Fenty Beauty products, and eating up every single crumb.
Kendall Jenner definitely looked her best for me. And I know the original 2006 gown from McQueen himself was on a different level of construction and execution but I still loved Lana’s look. It suited her well. I don’t want to go back to my images and notes from last night. Wanted to see what stuck with me and still made me smile.

And as much as I enjoyed the effort put in Zendaya’s looks, I believe the social media interactions prior to the event took the magic away. The build up was too much and the check got too big to cash for any celebrity and stylist duo. Even the most favorite at the moment. I really don’t know if we would have liked anything else more but a little mystery beforehand, and then even one look would have sufficed and satisfied. Alas, it is Zendaya and she was the belle of the ball. Or was that Mona Patel?
